shopgirl demorou tanto para chegar na rede que deu tempo de encomendar o livro, esperar a entrega, economizar noites de leitura e ainda usar a capa vinho com lettring branco para decorar a estante.

o livro é tão bom que chega a incomodar e o filme é tão pequenos pedaços dum espelho refletindo a minha pessoa que já me prometi o dvd. a história do filme não é descrita absolutamente a mesma do livro mas o consumo de ambos possivelmente amplia uma visão mais sensível dos personagens.

o guarda-roupa de claire danes é algo fantástico, mas além das vestes, é de encaixe perfeito toda a expressão corporal. claire danes é uma daquelas raras atrizes que por mais diferente que seja o personagem, jamais perde a feição. e a feição dela é de uma pessoa que embora feliz em determinados momentos, é acompanhada por uma tristeza que jamais abandona a alma.

a insanidade atrapalhada de jason schwartzman é um enigma cativo no filme. há talvez caracterização demais, mas talvez isso tenha sido necessário para salvar o gap de presença dele que precisava existir. quanto a steve martin, ele sabia e soube construir a si mesmo.

nem o filme nem e o livro descrumpem aquela minha regra básica de não dar ao espectador e ao leitor o final que ele espera, porém o desfecho em cada um é contato de modo diferente apesar de "darem" o mesmo "resultado" para o fim da história.

como o filme conta o fim:

as ray porter watches mirabelle walk away he feels a loss. how is it possible he thinks, to miss a woman whom he kept at a distance, so that when she was gone he would not miss her. only then does he realize how wanting part of her and not all of her has hurt them both, and how he cannot justify his actions except that, well, it was life.

some nights, alone, he thinks of her, and some nights, alone, she thinks of him. some nights these thoughts, separated by miles and time zones, occur at the same objective moment, and ray and mirabelle are connected without ever knowing it. one night, he will think of her as he looks into the eyes of someone new, searching for the two qualities that mirabelle defined for him: loyalty and acceptance. mirabelle, far away and in jeremy's embrace, knows that what had been lost is now regained.

months later, after the hard edges of their breakup had smoothed into forgetfulness, mirabelle speaks with ray porter on the phone. she tells him about her new life, and he hears the fresh delight in her voice. she tells him, "i feel like i really belong here. for the first time, i feel like i really belong." she underplays jeremy's place in her heart as she thinks it might hurt ray. she mentions that she continues to draw and sell, with a positive review in art news to her credict. they reminisce about their affair and she tells him how he helped her and he tells her how she helped him, then he apologizes for the way he handled everything. "oh, no... don't," she corrects him: "it's pain that changes our lives."

ps.: a crise de depressão de mirabelle no filme acontece por motivos diferentes que no livro - mas para a tela de cinema, certamente a explicação fica mais bela interpretada emocionalmente que cientificamente.
